Application Feedback?

Postby soundgeek2496 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 6:39 pm

I'm just curious, for those more seasoned game sound editors, how do you go about getting more work if you're not tied to any specific company department? Do any of you apply to adds found on Gamasutura often if so, are you ever turned down by a "sorry we feel you're not qualified enough" or "we've found another candidate that is more qualified" type feedback... even though you know you are qualified 100% for the position?

I think that a lot of game companies like to hire people to work in-house. So that could be an avenue for you... alternatively if you want to go the freelance route then yeah, sites like Gamasutra and even going to GDC to meet people could be beneficial.

I have received a good handful of in person interviews from using Gamasutura so far, just wasn't lucky enough to get that final win yet though :(

What Color Is Your Parachute? made me feel a lot better about that kind of thing. Great book for job hunting in general. I can directly attribute a couple of tips to getting various jobs, course places, etc over the years.

Goes oddly religious in the final chapter, or at least my edition does, but that bit is skipable.

My Dad turned me on to it. He did a lot of hiring within his company so he got to know CVs and interviewing really well. I think one candidate he ended up hiring told him about it.
