DR Bugs

Postby soundgeek2496 » Tue Oct 20, 2009 3:57 pm

I just returned from a 6 day shoot in the Dominican Republic. During one of my nights there I took a walk along the beach where we were staying and took notice to some really cool ambient bug sounds emitting from the treeline along the beach. It was 3am and I figured this would be the best time to get some SFX recordings in before people wake up again. I put together my MS rig and got some really cool sounds I'm gonna tweak with and see what Pitch n' Time will do to them :P

Here's a short 30 sec sample of the bug ambience I got from the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. Tried my best to filter out the nearby buildings air conditioners, you should notice the beach waves in the background.

Good stuff. Some unique sounding insects, nicely recorded too.

Ya, it came out ok... I wanted to get closer to source, but it was 3am, I was a bit inebriated from the bar, and I had these guards following me around I had to keep shushing till they finally figured out what it was I was doing :P. Definitely usable though, thanks

Just finished a two week film out in the Mojave Desert. The set consisted of a fully operational carnival, so here's the Ferris Wheel motors from under the wheel. Source recording was recorded to a 702T 24/192k, Oktava MK-012, MS encoded.

Thanks for sharing soundgeek. I carry around my H4 with me everywhere... you never know when sounds will present themselves. Must be a bit of a hassle carrying around all that gear tho ;)
